AAA Kartak and The Environment
AAA KARTAK Glass & Closet enthusiastically teams up with our customers to provide the very best value for glass, shower enclosures, closet shelving, windows and mirrors in Western Washington, with world class service and quality that are both Faster & Better. We believe it is our responsibility as a company and as individuals to play a part in protecting our environment, while encouraging those around us to do the same.
Our company has developed a committee, the AAA KARTAK Green Team, which is dedicated to assuring that all conservation and recycle programs are followed. The Green Team is also focused on educating employees on ways they can be green not only at the workplace, but as home as well. This team is responsible for coming up with new ideas on how our company can continue to strive for a better tomorrow. Our Plant A Tree Program is an excellent way for our customers to partner with us in making a difference. Whenever a customer orders work for a new jobsite, AAA KARTAK has committed to plant two trees. These are planted here in Puget Sound, or in a village in an under developed country. Through our Adopt a Village program, we are currently helping ensure a village in the much deforested nation of Haiti is well planted with trees. In addition, the sponsorship helps provide education techniques to restore the natural resources of rural farmers’ degraded lands.
We have planted hundreds of trees in the Puget Sound Area, such as red cedar, blue spruce and pine trees including recent plantings in Duvall and Camano Island. With the enthusiastic support of our customers, AAA KARTAK has managed to get over 10,000 trees planted since 2007, helping make our world a greener place.
AAA KARTAK Glass & Closet is a proud longtime member of Built Green. This program provides consumers with an easy-to-understand rating system for identifying projects built using sustainable and ecological materials and practices. As members of the Built Green program, AAA KARTAK is committed to helping improve and protect our environment, endeavoring to use time tested long lasting and ecologically low-impact materials, sealants and adhesives, sustainable glass products, and promoting healthy building practices.
The majority of our products are manufactured in the Puget Sound, thus reducing our carbon footprint. We offer low VOC adhesives and sealants and formaldehyde free designer closet shelving. We have eliminated the use of plastic bags from our marketing campaigns and instead of handing out flyers at home show events, we utilize email whenever possible, in order to reduce paper flow.
We are the provider of choice for hundreds, even thousands of Built Green and LEED projects annually. We are currently working on several projects utilizing the LEED program (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System, which is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water saving, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
In addition, we have several programs in place within our company that contribute to keeping our environment clean and livable. We recycle aluminum, wood & paper products and steel & scrap metal. We make sure all lights in rooms not being used during the day are turned off and that energy-saving night lights are placed in conference and storage rooms. We offer free employee bus passes to encourage use of the transit system. In 2009 we have implemented a revolutionary truck maintenance program that doubles and sometimes triples the life of our vehicle oil, while helping ensure our fleet of vehicles is up to date and running efficiently with better gas mileage. We were recently awarded the 2008 Environmental Excellence Award from the Association of Washington Businesses.
By promoting healthy and safe building practices and installing company wide programs that recycle products and conserve energy, AAA KARTAK is helping to improve and protect our environment, making a better tomorrow by what we are doing today.
